The tempered glass protectors also help guard against impact. My son opened a cupboard and a jar of marmite fell onto his iPhone 6s. The protector shattered but the screen underneath was unmarked.

I third that! Kunoichi, I am 72 and suffer a spinal disability which gives me hand tremors occasionally, without warning. This makes me more aware of possible "drops" and I am probably more careful as a result. However, I have dropped it on a few occasions and the silicon bumper did its job. My problem is that my hands are not steady enough to put the protector on the glass. Tried it and ruined the thing, so gave up and got the bumper.

I am careful to avoid the scenario flashg67 talks about, and never put it in a pocket with keys and/or coins, or indeed anything else at all.

    Hi Robisere
If you still feel the need to get a glass protector, just get one of the guys at any mobile phone stall to put one on for you. You find the stalls in most markets these days. They don't charge any extra for fitting and are pretty experienced at putting them on.

  • Thank you everyone for your replies! I'm not planning on going the iPhone route, but definitely want to keep the phone I buy (currently looking at a Moto G5) for as long as possible, in as good condition as possible.

If you are going that route and wish to buy a G5 outright, I would go right to the manufactures website where you get better models for the money.

They give you dual sim as standard [shop ones don't], choices of phone app working memory areas, bigger on board sd memory sizes.

Plus you can bespoke it with different colour covers etc. You can get them to engrave things onto the phone like a phrase or name.

I just use a silicon bumper case to protect my phone you don't need a screen protector.

Me too, and I keep the phone in a Shocksock to protect it from scratches.
