Best Joint Card for Couples

My boyfriend and I are wanting a joint card to pay for mutual expenses such as flights, hotel stays etc etc. However both of us are looking to apply for mortgages in the near future and don't want the mark on our credit application file. Is a pre-paid card an option and if so what is the best one - we would pay off in full every month so not bothered about interest rates, more about cash back, benefits etc. Any ideas anyone?
Thanks in advance!

    There are no joint cards.

One of you will need to apply and then add the other as a secondary cardholder.

Which one you apply for depends on what you're likely to get, and what sort of benefits you like.

If you're looking at a mortgage in the future and don't already have credit cards, I'd suggest you both get one and use them appropriately to help build some history.

We both already have cards and great credit histories - just don't want the mark on the file as we are both looking at mortgages in the very near future. We'd ideally like cash back or benefits such as airmiles, store vouchers, etc

If you both already have good credit histories, then an application for another card is neither here nor there in the grand scheme of things. Indeed, another card that's run properly ( i.e. used regularly and paid in full every month ) can only improve your record. As far as benefits go, just have a look around and see what rewards you fancy, then apply for the card that offers what you want. Just beware of cards that charge a fee - not many do, but some that offer the "best" rewards do. I'm not saying a fee is a bad thing, but just work out if the value of the rewards outweighs the fee.

The only rewards card I know about personally - purely because I have it myself - is the Tesco one, where you get clubcard vouchers. It's not a massive amount, but better than nothing, and free. There are probably better cards out there, but for my usage it suits me.

If the mortgage applications are 'in the very near future', why not just wait until you've secured these before applying for more credit cards, especially if you both already have access to existing cards?

My advice would be to warn the boyfriend off. If he annoys her, she might empty the account.

    1. You're obviously considering travelling. Do you already have at least two of the recommended travel cards?

    2. With two cards on the same account it would be worth looking for providers that give each card its own long number. My wife lost her cards recently and immediately reported them stolen. I was able to continue using my Halifax card (it's on her account) because it has a different number to hers. I could not use the Nationwide card because both hers and mine have the same number.

I'd take a look at the posting history, there's an awful lot of odd stuff posted IMHO.
