    Agree with the above. When we moved, I contacted our existing insurer to see if we could transfer the insurance to the new house. They said they couldn't insure our new house as they don't cover properties with more than 5 bedrooms. I have never classed this as 'insurance declined'
  • Thanks everyone for all the messages. We tried a few online tools but felt we had to declare the issue as it's in the structural survey. Got turned down by another one, but got advised to speak to the British insurance brokers association (BIBA), and they pointed us to specialist insurance for this sort of issue. Ended up costing a bit more than planned (not too much) and excludes subsidence cover until the work is done. A bit frustrating as we've had builder quotes and the works are really minor, and we prob could have got away with getting an online one and doing the work. But we were worried we wouldn't be covered if we didn't declare it.

    Anyway, we're sorted now - so thanks for all the advice and help, really appreciated!

    I think it's a lot less serious than having a claim declined by the insurer. But I think you're right in that it could be interpreted several ways and a phone call will clear it up.
