You want to sue the previous owner for something that you admit that they possibly/probably didn't know about, given that no one in the 21st Century puts artex on ceilings?

Good luck with that. Talk about harsh.

When you buy a new house for, say, half a million quid, your consumer rights are considerably less than if you had bought a £10 toaster at Argos. Your chance of success in such a claim is precisely zero.

I keep uncovering WTFs in my house. I'm sure there more yet to be discovered, I wouldn't be too happy if I was held responsible for them should I sell the house.

Previous owners of my place had their son, who they claimed to be a chippy, do the kitchen and bathroom installs. Cabinetry is OK, but the electrics are a horror story...

When we moved in the first thing we did was tear down this horrible pink and black wallpaper.

Turns out the previous people decided that wallpapering over the wall would be easier than filling in all the holes in the wall!

Every time I think "That's the last vestige of the stuff those b'stards did, gone for ever!" I find I'm wrong.

Like yesterday, when I spotted water coming from under my workshop door. The stop valve is 150m away!

Oh, and baler twine....Everywhere I dig there's a piece to pull up. Some pervert spent the whole of their time here burying the stuff. Why?

    Same.
Lose tile in the shower meant that water leaked into the kitchen downstairs if used.

Radiators sometimes leak when they turned on.

Literally all the windows are ill fitted to the point the curtains still move when there is a breeze let alone a decent wind.

Indoor doors are also poorly fitted.

John Lewis came in to fit my new washing machine and saw that the old washing machine was directly connected to the power via tying two wires together (not plugged in) and lose on the floor.

An indoor lead was ran from a covered socket inside to the garden outside.

    Neighbour was ridiculously annoying.

Can't hold the previous owner responsible, I bought as is and when viewing the property had full permission to check every detail. Sad the windows weren't picked up in the survey as it's the only thing that really bugs me and would have made me reduce my offer so I could get them fixed.
  • OP, I think you're on a hiding to nothing with this one.
