FedEx sent me a Duty & Tax Invoice - Advice needed

Wow, I did not think I would be answering a post I made nearly 3 years ago! To answer your question, the competition terms did not specify which country it was open to and I assumed as they sold their website sold products to this country it would be open to the UK. I noticed in future competitions they specified US only.camelot1971 said:
Why are you entering contests in the US if you don't want to pay duties?flyingflea said:I won a competition to win a camera from a US based company. It arrived the next week via FedEx but today I have received a Duty & Tax invoice for £25.86 (£12 clearance admin charge + £13.86 disbursements out of the scope of EU VAT).
The camera itself was worth £69. Is it right that I have to pay to receive my prize?0 -
> You had the option to refuse it surely?
No, I didn't. It was propped up outside my door by the postman and brought into the house by my wife when she got home.0 -
I think someone else posted a similar query in the middle of your thread (on page 2) - so the question probably wasn't aimed at you.flyingflea said:

Really? The postman delivered it and then Fed Ex invoiced you? I would certainly query that oneJonOapostropheBrien said:> You had the option to refuse it surely?

I realised what I'd typed immediately I hit the post button, considered posting another message to correct my mistake but figured no one on here would be enough of a !!!!!! to bother pointing it out. Just goes to show how wrong you can be.custardy said:

I pay as much attention to import laws as I need to, given that I never import anything.powerful_Rogue said:Clearly pays as much attention to post dates then he does import laws.
BTW, I think that "then" should be "as" and there should be a "to" between the "does" and the "import". I tend to pay attention to that sort of thing as I use the English language every day.0
