Diet/healthy/low fat food is the most expensive

I've bought a load of WW books (the one with the lemons on the front is great).
We have never eaten so well.
The food is wholesome & easy to prepare.
I'm just having a moan really.
I was going round the supermarket yesterday with my trolly full of low fat food, knowing that the low fat options I had selected were probably the most expensive per weight of all the options on the shelf.
I peeped into others trollys, full of the specials knowing they would get a lot more quantity for their money.
& felt annoyed that supermarkets offer those specials to tempt poorer families in to buy their wares & keep the low fat stuff at top price knowing us diet/health consious will cough up. AND FELT WE ARE ALL GETTING A RAW DEAL. Poorer familes are buying crap because its all they can afford & I am paying over the odds for less (because their must be less in diet food?) because I'm WW.
I think with obesity the levels it is now. Fatty & Sugary & fast food should be taxed to subsidise low fat/sugar/basic food.
We would all benefit.0 -

Talking of WW food.
Asda until 2 weeks ago sold WW salami. I use it in the spicy sausage & pasta recipe.
They haven't had it the last two weeks.
Anyone know where else I can get it?0 -
:rotfl: I know the feeling, but you're committing yourself to WWs products and it is expensive and full of stuff that isn't real food. Maybe weaning yourselves off them is the way to go -mind you don't do what I do and replace them with hm flapjacks :rotfl:I need some of those things to keep me/us on track. I only get a few bits. Sausages for weekend brekies & the bars & cookies for the lunch boxes.

I'm on WW too and I admit to falling for the sweet stuff too (though I'm on the core plan so apart from 3 pts a day its all healthy unprocessed stuff)
The WW mint choc bars are yummy, those and skinny cow lollies are my expensive but low fat treats
Depending how many points you have spare there are other cheaper treats around... curly wurly bars for ex are 3 points but feel like a full 'real' choc bar. Solero icecreams for 2 points. Milky Way 2pts. Low fat choc mousse 1.5pt.0 -
Try own brand low fat alternatives, theytaste the same and generally have the same points as WW. Plus Tesco put the points value on the back of their Healthy Living stuff and I've never known it be wrong.
Get yourself a WW points Calc and take it shopping with you.
Plus normal Ham is better than WW ham, and Sainsburys and Asda do lovely low fat sausages that work out at about a point each.

I agree that fruit and veggies are expensive compared to bulked out processed guff. I know the in season stuff is cheaper but if you are eating good amounts of fruit and veg a week it is sooo boreing to stick to cabbage and carrots. My fruit bill alone is £20 a week for a family of five and that's shopping at Tesco and slumming it with Value range apples, pears and nanas, not your swanky delivered in a box stuff.
WW and other diet brands are daylight robbery IMO, I've looked at the calorie values of some of them and the reduction compared to regular brand is not worth the increase in cost. Last week I compared Tesco regular icecream with a more expensive slimmers version and the difference was 20 calories per serving, thats about a third of an apple difference!Life's a beach! Yes, but often WW are even lower. Like their pate. I get the lowest possible, so I can have more:o
