Diet/healthy/low fat food is the most expensive.
We are all on WW now:o
& so I buy less food, but groceries still cost as much:rolleyes:
The Diet/healthy/low fat option is ALWAYS the most expensive of the versions on offer, have you noticed that?
Its rarely on offer.
Fruit & veg are expensive.
I get quite a few WW bits. These are top price.
I think with the growing weight problem :rotfl: :rotfl: in this country the government should find some tricks to lower healthly food (perhaps a surcharge on fatty stuff & takeaways to subsidise it).
The majority of stuff on offer is the crappy end of the market. Frozen reconstituted meat/poultry/fish bits & stuff full of trans fats & e numbers.

If you are buying WW labelled products then yes they are expensive, but then someone has to pay for a label & marketing budget :rotfl:
If you are buying WW labelled items why not stop & make your own from basic items?
One reason healthy processed food is more expensive is that it can't [or should not be] bulked out with fat, rubbish and salt / flavours used to hide the grossnesss of the ingredientsNumerus non sum0 -
Make from scratch and dont 'buy the processed carp. Even WW has additives, preservatives and sweeteners you don't need to eat.0

I agree that some fruit and veg are very expensive, but you do not have to eat avocados, mangos (is there an e in those words ?) or ready packaged salads to eat healthily. Potatoes, carrots, swede, cabbage, apples, bananas are all cheap and all really good for you.
Other examples of healthy cheap foods are homemade wholemeal bread, skimmed and semi-skimmed milk (I think whole milk is healthy but I know this isn't generally accepted), dried skimmed milk, oats, pasta, rice, barley, lentils, dried beans and peas (dried peas are about the cheapest protein source around).
Also baked beans, eggs, tinned tuna, sardines, pilchards, tinned tomatoes, fruit canned in juice can be quite reasonable, home made yogurt, low-fat soft cheese and cottage cheese aren't expensive. Plain Ryvitas seem to be the cheapest crispbread around.
Fresh fish -mackerel, herring, coley and pollack are bargains. Frozen white fish fillets too, and salmon fillets can sometimes be a good buy.0 -
Oh I don't buy ready meals.
But I get the WW bars & cookies for our packed lunches. I need 16 of those a week to cover 2x5 & 1 x6.
I've been getting the WW cooked sliced meat for sandwiches too. Waitrose do a nice lean & low fat one too.
I've been getting the new WW sausages & bacon. The sausages are the best low fat ones I've ever had. They are chipolata style & I don't like fat sausages.
Can't do HM bread, the smell of fresh bread wafting through the house would drive me insane. I would eat it all!!!!!!!!0 -
Hi there kimevans
I have done every "diet" going ..many several times
..and plonked all i have lost back on...with VAT
Im now cooking OS and losing weight eating really well and really economically....plenty of veggies and a really well balanced diet, but tasty too . there is a weightloss OS style thread... we swap tips, recipes and loads of moral support.. have a look on there... we should be able to help out.
I am cooking everything pretty much from scratch..which i know isn't always possible for everyone all the time.. but if 3 of you are WW...you have a head start :T .... home made has so much more "fill" to it than the ready meals...
hope to see you on the weight loss thread;)
Just spotted your latest thread....
have you got a WW database? as there are so many bars out there that are similar or less points than the WW ones-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
I know but I love the mint choc ones & the peanut ones. They are yummy & keep me/us on track!!!0

Have to agree that the WW labelled stuff is definitely more expensive. Why not try baking some flapjacks and counting the points by the ingredients you put in.
Also bulk everything homemade out with veggies it's filling and low fat. Good luck with the weight loss.0 -
AHHHHH
didn't know they had got the mint one back..used to be addicted
..i will now shuffle away - whilst trying to forget about them
..now i know why you have a problem:rotfl: -6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
But you could try not having the cookies, ham or sausages

You could try home popped popcorn for a lunch box snack, or dried fruit -raisins are about the cheapest. Munchy seeds are easy to make at home and healthy if not eaten in vast quantities. There's always apples and bananas too. The little citrus fruits will be cheaper when their season gets into stride in the run up to Christmas.
Try tinned fish or egg in your sandwiches. I don't think WWs lean ham is any different from standard ham. Turkey is very low in fat.
I agree with you about the sausages- low fat ones are not the same. Best not to have sausages or make proper sausages stretch by having fewer in a casserole with lots of veg or pulses.
