Maggots in bell peppers

Hello.
I recently bought a pack of 3 bell peppers from a supermarket chain. They all looked fine on the outside. When I cut the green one open, it was evidently infested with some kind of maggot. It looked like it had lots of black stains internally (not visible from the outside!) and some of them were moving! Absolutely gross. I had to throw it away ASAP to prevent the maggots from crawling out.
Is there anything I could do in terms of claiming a refund? I wouldn't take the pepper on the bus back to the supermarket in its cut-up state. Ew. What would you guys have done?

You could have put it in a plastic bag, sealed the neck & taken it back ??
Oh sorry you have to go on a bus........that's not allowed.0 -
I don't see any problem with taking it back to the supermarket, but obviously too late for that. Alternatively, I think I might have taken a photo of it and taken the photo + receipt to the supermarket.
Or, knowing me, I'd have put the pepper in the compost and forgotten all about it. I regularly cut insects and grubs out of fruit and veg, although I'd be a bit miffed if I'd paid for it (grow a lot of my own, organically + forage, so get used to gross things)/.0 -
Throw it away and move on, mention it the next time you shop, they might offer something.0

I suspect that if you take the receipt next time you go shopping they will refund for all 3 peppers rather than just the one .
Its no big deal, I remember back when many raspberries used to have maggots in them, they dont make any difference to the taste and do add protein0 -

You wouldn't take the pepper on the bus? Im sure some of the passengers have far worse conditions.
Have you seen the states of bus seats also? Urine/Vomit and all sorts of bodily fluids.
A few bugs in a pepper inside a bag is nothing. You brought them home on the bus so whats difference to taking it back?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
