I'm being inundated by spam mail, much of it from a mailing management company in Boston USA. They give an option at the bottom of the Mail to click to unsubscribe.
I never know whether ticking will actually subscribe me to such mailing lists or confirm that I'm .an active user of my email address.
What should I do? Is there any mailing mail subscription legislation in the USA which covers this kind of activity?

I've dealt with this inthe past by creating a filter using the name of the mailing company to fiter the email straight to trash. This works in Gmail.
This works for those emails where the co puts it's details at the footer of the email. As you say it also avoids you confirming that your address is 'live'0 -
Thanks. Are you able to confirm how I get the filter to work on an Apple iPad? I,m not using Gmail for this and am.not very techie unfortunately.0

We really need to know what email service you're using (Virgin, BT, Outlook Mail, Yahoo! etc.) to guide you more.0 -
A basic rule of thumb is don't click on 'unsubscribe' if you didn't subscribe in the first place0

I'm sorry, I only use gmail, never ithings. I hope someone who can help will be along soon. I'm sure filtering works much the same in most email programs/clients. It will help others if you can say which program and email service you use?0 -
I use an Apple iPad. Somebody set my email system up for using my own domain email address. I have no idea which email system is used on the iPad. (They don,t come more techie ignorant than me!)0
