Landlord using shared house as a B&B

    If there are shared facilities ( bathroom ) that is one thing, but shared consumables ( toilet paper ) is something else. A high turnover means you don't have the security of long-term rapport, so any personal items cannot be left in "publicly accessible" areas. No toilet paper out, individual fridges with locks etc.

    What about crockery ? Can the guests use it, must it be washed ?
    Sounds more like a Youth Hostel arrangement than a B & B, but similar difficulties.

    It would be good to see what sort of feedback it is getting.

    Most of the posts on here to date making very valid points.

    So I guess the plan of action is:

    - check on the websites this **** person is likely to be advertising the rooms on to see exactly what they are saying about it

    - check to see if you can find any reviews

    - don't keep anything in communal areas

    - personally I'd be trying to get to speak to one or two of these "uninvited guests" to find out in person exactly what was going on (and what they thought of it). They are probably finding out it's not the sort of set-up they thought it would be either.

    - find out what the other occupants of the shared house thought about this and try and have a group approach about how you deal with it (I presume you do know some of them? I certainly found in houses of bedsits years back I got to know some and others were ones one obviously didnt wish to get to know iyswim)

    - and, obviously, try and find another place to live asap of the more "standard" type (ie where this person isnt trying it on doing things like this).

    If you all can make sure there is no communal toilet roll, food or other consumables available to these unwanted guests, the place might start getting such bad reviews they stop coming ;-)

    don't flush the toilet, leave out of date milk in the fridge e.t.c , they will get the hint

    isn't that normal HMO practice anyway ? Or is it just for the last few days ?.

    I'd have thought that after each person left, the room would need a severe cleaning. Do the sheets get changed, or are they now like pieces of cardboard ?

    I have read this with fascination and intrigue but cannot figure out how to "watch" the post for your update.

    Interested to see how you deal with this. Also what type of person rents a room when it hasn't been cleaned/bed made etc. Surely they would pitch up realise then leave again? Or is your landlord popping in daily to prepare the place for the next customer?

    What does your tenancy say? Does it specify a room in a property with X number of people all on AST's or licences.
