Bank no longer issues cheques

Hi
My Bank has discontinued cheques from 1st of August this year. I can still pay in cheques, but I no longer have a cheque book to make payments with. I do most of my transactions online, so it is not going to cause frequent issues, but there are some activities/clubs that need to be paid by cheque rather than a bank transfer or card. What would be good 'paper based' alternatives to cheques? Bankers draft?
Grateful for any advice.
Thank you.

probably best to either move bank or open a second account at another bank and use cheques from that if you need to. zJustbout of curiosity which bank was it?

I don't understand the problem as any club or society that requests payment by cheque can only USE that cheque if they have.......a bank account

if they have a bank account that account will have a sort code and an account number .......hey presto they can accept payment by BACS! (ie no need for a cheque)

OP asked for a paper-based alternative, so obviously doesn't want to use online transfer (which wouldn't be BACS if from an individual - it would be Faster Payment).

If unwilling to use online system the only alternative is change bank, try postal orders or simply use cash.

I wonder which bank it is that has stopped issuing cheque books so I can send them some sort of "thank you, hope the others do the same thing" letter.

    Which bank is this?

I would suggest you ordering enough cheque books before they stop issuing.

I have noticed that the banks are only issuing 20 cheques in a book now rather then the 50 they used too, so cheques are not as frequently used now as faster payment is easier and faster.

To be honest I rarely write out bankers drafts now only for funeral bills and the odd birthday present, and of course complaints if there is no bank account.

Surely you'd want to show your appreciation by switching to them, not just a mere 'thank you'.

Can't see anything wrong with pruning out the type of "high maintenance" clients that still like to faff about with cheques - it's a bit like utility customers cherry picking clients by making some accounts online only and many employers who will only allow online applications for jobs - bring it on i say and let the dinosaurs keep their archaic methods but for a premium price to reflect the cost of it.

There are some times where a chequebook is a really useful thing to have... but it doesn't stop you not having one and refusing to accept payment from others by cheque - so everybody can be happy :)

Lots of government departments use cheques, like HMRC. I am waiting for a VED refund from DVLA, it will be a cheque. They have their uses.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.
