I'd also back a Ford Focus. Get one in Zetec or Titanium spec for a decent amount of toys.
Prices vary greatly so make sure you're getting a good one at a good price.
Astras are decent too, probably slightly cheaper than a Focus too. I'd aim for SRi spec
