Why has nobody mentioned going on the sick for a week to try out the new job?Sometimes my advice may not be great, but I'm not perfect and I do try my best. Please take this into account.0

I've been recruiting and interviewing recently. We go through a few agencies. I will always tell (and be told) to get it in writing from us before you do anything.0

I have - but then I work for an LA and have for years.
I certainly wouldn't been resigning on the basis of a phone call - but then it really depends on the job and the industry, I suppose.0 -

To be honest if anyone said to me "I am not resigning until you have received the references" I would think "What is he afraid that the references might say?"
But not on a phone call no - on a written offer subject to references.0 -

That makes no sense - if I were afraid of what the references might say, surely I'd accept as soon as possible and hope that maybe - just maybe - references weren't followed up.
Other than that, I think we are arguing the same point.0 -

It makes absolute sense. If I have confidence that the references will be good, I accept and resign. If I am not confident, I don't give up the job I have until they have been received. The path you suggest would leave somebody without a job.0 -

We will have to agree to disagree.0
