Roofer wont send receipt.

Hi,
following successful small roof repair , roofer seems reluctant to send receipt. What is the legal position? Home insurance wont pay out unless I show proof of up to date maintenance.

I have a series of emails discussing the work and his quote. He has a website...presumably I can suggest that I forward these onto HMRC if he continues to drag his heels?0

You didn't agree a "cash price" or similar, did you? If you did, you've caused your own problem.
If you didn't, rather than jumping to the conclusion that he's done something wrong, I'd send him another formal email insisting he send you a receipt for the work carried out because your insurer requires it, along with his company name, for their records.0 -
Sorry for the wrong impression . I'm only looking to the longer term if he continues to avoid replying to my requests . He previously replied promptly and I'm a bit suspicious that he will continue to do so.0

Did he know roof repair was associated with an insurance claim? The bank transfer might not have been into his business account - or his account at all.0

This work was not done as part of an insurance claim. We did ask our insurers if we were covered but were told that , since we had not had the roof felt replaced within the last 12 years we were not covered. No problem. We contacted this roofer to look at the leak and advise. We have been quite happy with him and his work. I just want a receipt so that , in the event of any future problems, we will be covered. I have emailed twice to ask for a receipt. He has always been prompt in replying to my emails....until now. Am I wrong in my suspicions that he does not want to supply me with a receipt because he wants to avoid paying tax on the job?0

I reckon he just can't be bothered. I have to do my own for half my subbies as they're not particularly literate!
Giving you a receipt makes no difference to what he decides to declare to HMRC. You've put it straight into his bank account anyway.
You have all the evidence you need. The quote and evidence of payment. Insurance are never going to cover the wear and tear of an aging felt roof, so they're not going to be interested.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
