Seen that on the FB page for the FPL version (before I left the group), just seems like an attempt to bump up traffic to the sites to me - there is no reason an e-mail saying check your account would be more likely to get through than a simple one saying you have won - the click to wins seem to manage just fine notifying a considerably larger number of winners all directly.

You are probably right. They have to fund the prizes somehow, so the more hits the sites get, the better for raising revenue.

    It seems now there is also a daily prize. Details for today here;

    https://iwon.iwn.io/all/amazon-081117

"To co-incide with the launch of our new winner notification tool (you now find out if you're a winner by looking in your My Account page), we're giving away a £10 Amazon voucher every day for the next 7 days. You only have until midnight tonight to enter this prize draw, and the winner will be notified in their My Account page tomorrow!

    - prize must be claimed within 24 hours otherwise a new winner will be selected"

That's true but they already encourage people to enter for prizes they may not want so they can enter the "Lucky 7" competition and it's simply dishonest to excuse not notifying winners directly because some e-mails might not get through, if that was their true concern there is nothing to stop them sending proper winning notifications and making the information available within a winners account as well.

Hi all, we are the Simply Media Team and thought we would say hi so that you can direct any questions to us and we will do our best to answer them for you.

As you are aware we have made a change to our winner notification process. The reason for the change was based on factors including emails not getting through to winners and mis-spelt email addresses on registration. We felt that notifications in 'My Account' ensures that everybody has the opportunity to see if they've won and crucially we do email winners if they haven't claimed their prize within 7 days or sooner if relevant.

We understand our email notifications to go and check your account is just as likely to get through as the winner notification email we previously used but we wanted to ensure those who's email is an issue (junk folders, mis-spelt emails etc) had the opportunity to claim their prize.

and mis-spelt email addresses on registration.

How could they be a winner? Without the correct e-mail address they will not have received an activation e-mail, so with an inactive account how were they able to enter never mind win a competition?

Setting that bit of fun aside for now, if someone enters on say six sites and they are chosen as a winner (assuming they have the same details for all the sites) will the winning notification appear in their account on all the sites or just one of them?

    EDIT

Just given this a bit more thought whether the e-mail is a "you have won" or a "check your account" type if the reason for it is to give the winner a chance to claim just send whichever type of e-mail it is to the winner, there is no point in sending them out to people who have not won, also sending out one email instead of say 10,000 makes it much less likely the e-mail would be picked out as spam/junk/newsletter etc.

    Hi mjm3346

We've given away almost 300 prizes in the past year, but in about 10% of cases, we've had issues contacting the winner, with feedback such as “it went into my spam folder” and “I saw your email and thought it wasn’t genuine” - in most cases, we had to resort to using our personal email addresses to get the message through.

You are correct to point out the mis-spelt emails are now not an issue due to the need to verify your account, but they have played a part previously, which is why we mentioned it. Sorry for the confusion.

The change we've made to put the notification into a users account ensures everyone gets a chance to see if they’ve won, with the notification staying in their account for the full claim period, or until they claim (meaning you don’t have to come every day to check). We also, on standard claim periods of 21 days, email the winner after 7 and 14 days if they haven’t yet claimed their prize, and then again twice in the final week of their claim period, so ultimately, you don’t have to visit the site to get a winners notification. For shorter claim periods, we'll still email the winner as part of the claim process (once they've had a chance to claim via the site).

As for the extra visits having users check their account generates, this helps us make about £10 extra a day in total, which given the site is free for you to use and enter (as it’s entirely funded by advertising), helps us buy more prizes. I would hope most people would be ok with this, because the more prizes we can buy, the more chances they have to win. We don’t sell your data/details, so you’ll never be spammed by companies as a result of entering our competitions.

We hope this helps explain things better and you can appreciate the genuine reasons behind the change. We have more updates coming (new games, more chances to win etc) which will include a notification on the My Account link on the home page that will make it clear you've won something and need to click into the My Account page to claim your prize.

So to clarify, there is no reason to send winner notifications to anybody other than the winner except to bump up traffic to the site which increases revenue and in part at least enables more and bigger prizes to be offered (which is fine and other sites do it).

Going back to the other point, will the notification appear in one or all of the accounts someone has?
if someone enters on say six sites and they are chosen as a winner (assuming they have the same details for all the sites) will the winning notification appear in their account on all the sites or just one of them?

Hi, all accounts are independent of each other. If they were linked, you would only be able to enter the comps once per day across all the sites, rather than once per day per site. The means that the winning notification is linked to the site where the entry was made and will only appear on that site.

    Hi Allisoca

Bella isn't a simply media site so there's no my account section - winners are still informed by email.

The simply media sites are the sites mentioned in post 2 - and winners are informed by accessing my account which can be found in the top corner.
