All pipework used to be supplied by Transco.
A while ago the market was de-regulated and a new company called IGT came along.
They offer cheaper prices for installing pipes on new sites but charge more for the on-going rental.
Guess which one the developers use?
The developers of new housing estates usually pick IGT over transco because it's cheaper for them (but more expensive for you long term).
Not all companies charge extra for IGT.
In my experience the switching sites don't inclue any extra for IGT.
I recently signed up to Npower and they were quite good in that they sent me a letter and told me it would be extra.
The extra is normally around £30 - £40 per year, but not all companies charge it.
If you are savings lots then don't worry about it.
If you really are looking at small savings then you need to do detailed research into each tariff.
It's not that easy to get the information I'm afraid.
The easiest way to handle it is not to swicth unless there is AT LEAST a £40 savings per annum.0 -
I think there are 4 companies left that are IGTs, as elsewhere mergers and aquisitions have whittled them down.
If your supply number begins (MPR) with a 7 then your are on an IGT network, if not you can ignore all this.
Search the threads, there are numbers and costs in here somewhere.0 -
IGT sites are a pain in the @rse!0

If you have dual fuel with EDF you do not pay extra for IGT's. That's what I do. :j0

IGT's are listed on here if you want to contact them:
