Santander - Online Banking time out

I have a Santander bank account. It's not my main bank account one but more a 2nd one. Though my CC is on the account sign on supposedly as well!

Does anyone on here use Santander Online Banking successfully?

I first signed up in 2015. Go to log in & took ages to connect and then got timed out. error message saying taking too long to connect.
At the time I raised this with Santander and they said they having technical issues & looking into it. A few weeks after that, I tried again same thing, timed out; so gave up with it.

This week I thought I'd try again, as be nice to get some online access to the account.
Put in the user ID in goes to connect take ages timed out. Surely they can't be having these issues after 2 years.

Does anyone else have this issue?:(

  • Sorry to say, (in respect of your situation) but my access is always fine - where I have a decent data signal.

I never use alien WiFi for access to my account when not at home, aiming for 4G, where available.

Only access issues I have had are where mobile data is G or H.

    H+ accesses, but slowly.

What devices and locations have you tried for access to Santander's Online Banking?

Are you using online or are you using an app?

If the latter, make sure that it is the latest version.

    Good luck.

Ok thanks. Just trying to eliminate things. I'll get on to them.
I have tried it from home PC, via the broadband and tried it from my phone 4G (non app) usual browser and again get the same issue. Both timed out.

IMHO. It's seems like it's trying to search a path on a server, which is not there. Obviously there is something wrong with the ID sign on!

How are you getting to the log in page ? If you are doing it from a bookmark I seem to remember there was an issue with outdated log in pages which could be giving the problem. Clear cookies then go to santander.co.uk and click the log on link and see what happens.

Hi , yes done all that and even tried it from my phone and same issue.
I tried re-registering and the system stated I am already registered under my 8 digit ID number. The system is reading that as a live ID number.

I get to the Santander log on screen. Put in my 8 digit ID number. Then it just takes ages you can see at the bottom of the screen the links going through some www. layers. Then it finally goes to the server www.myonlineaccounts2.co.uk (roughly what it says)
Then it's at that point it seems it can't do anything, then I get the message connection timed out.

It's looks like nothing wrong with my connection, but merely can't find something on their servers.
  • Top of the login page states "You currently have cookies disabled. To use Online Banking you will need to enable cookies."

Do you have cookies disabled by chance?

I take it from previous posts that you have also tried accessing the login screen from the main santander-co-uk home page?

Have you tried different internet browsers?

It sounds like it cannot find the account associated with the 8-digit ID number, however, you seem to have verified that already.

    Plot thickens!

    Yes cookies is all enabled.
I have requested reconfirmation of the other sign on details, as if I need to contact online support need to ensure these are correct for verification purposes.
I tried it on my friends PC different browser, again timed out. There is something about the ID number the system does not like.
Hopefully the details will come through wed/thur. I'll have an update then, when can spoken to online support

So you have an 8-digit ID number? I only ask because mine and the OH'S are 10 digit numbers made up of six digits for the date of birth and another four random numbers and I thought they were all like that. Could it be that it's expecting 10 digits?

I know I had an issue a couple of years back, where I had an old ID from when I had an ISA with them (that I never used in the end). When I took the Santander 123 account out some years later, I had to create a new ID and for a while there seems to be some confusion as to which ID and security number to use, but it was eventually sorted out. I'm pretty sure that even that old number was 10 digits as well though, but I was thinking that maybe all you need is a new ID. Just a thought.

It could be that? Though, when I went to re-register. I had to put in all the usual security stuff in, including my card number and it said already registered with that number.
I'll see what the details say when it comes back later in the week. I've tried on 3 separate devices. So there is definitely an issue with the number.

I have an old Santander savings account with 10p in it, easy saver I think. Haven't used it for a couple of years. Anyhow, I just logged in on both app and website using my 8 digit passcode and was successful on both platforms.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.
