SCAM - 24/7 Home Rescue boiler insurance

Options
My 24/7 home rescue policy covered my boiler and states the following:

"Relaxed your covered"
"No hidden fees: There are no extra costs for parts and labour or call out
fees, just one monthly payment."

So when my boiler broke down yesterday, boy was I glad I had invested in some cover and I was completely relaxed like they advised. An engineer was sent round today who diagnosed a fault with the fan, it needed a new one. I got a followup call a bit later on to tell me that I had to pay for the fix myself because the cost of it was greater than 60% of the value of the boiler. How much was my boiler worth in their view I asked.......NOTHING they said, because it was 10 years old and they factored in 10% annual depreciation. It was the first i'd heard of either their 60% or their 10% rule, and the bottom line is that it doesn't matter what the fix cost, it was always going to be higher than 60% of 0. At that point they said they were cancelling my policy even though I told them I didn't want them to. They knew what age my boiler was because you have to answer their eligibility questions before they accept the policy. So they knew my policy was a complete sham. I challenge you, if you have a 24/7 policy - see if you can find anything written or said about their 10% depreciation rule. You wont. They are complete con artists who have robbed me of 8 months of premiums and worse, made me think I had cover when in fact I did not leaving me with a sizable bill now to get my boiler fixed.

There has got to be some consumer law protecting people against this kind of malicious daylight robbery.

No one can unilaterally add terms to any contract after it is formed.
Nothing to do with consumer law; it's basic contract law.

Have you had the policy for a while, or just taken it out.

Are they refunding the premiums you paid?
