Goldfish payment

I took out a Goldfish card last month with a 3.9% BT rate. I called Goldfish a couple of weeks ago and asked to pay by direct debit. They said it may take a while to set up and to make a manual payment by debit card in the meantime.

My payment due date was 5 October, I called them on 30 Sept to make my debit card payment but the automated system announced that payment would be take by direct debit on 5 October. I couldn't afford to risk paying twice so I didn't proceed with the card payment.

I checked my bank account on the morning of 6 October and could not see the payment, I duly rang Goldfish who told me the direct debit was not yet up and I should have paid by card.

I explained the situation and they agreed to wipe off the late charges as it was a "misunderstanding", I made the payment by debit card.

Will this show on my credit file as a late payment and are Goldfiish likely to withdraw my 3.9% BT rate (I forgot to ask them this and have shredded my statement now?)

  • My BT promotional rate was revoked . However, I called tonight and they have decided to put it on again as late payment was misunderstanding.

However, it took 22 mins of waiting for them to pick up phone (on 08705 number) so have probably spent the difference in interest anyway!
