I have decided to move my Wordpress site from iPage as the renewal price (no doubt helped by the weak pound) is astronomical compared with what I paid for the first year.

can anyone recommend an alternative? I do not plan to use a free host as I want decent customer service.

I'm happy with TSOHost - UK based customer support via chat/email and some good package prices

I use Vidahost, but the prices have recently increased so you should check they are in your budget

I use 50webs, it works for me but i have not tried any other paid ones.

Tried a few free ones and some were terrible 0000host? or something like that had to verify each page you uploaded on the free account.

So upload a page and spot a typo, then it needs to be verified again. Supposed to be fairly quick but more than a few times i had to contact them after 24hours + because it was not live.

I tried 50webs free and it worked for me, so paid. Approx £40 a year with upto 10 of your own domains and 200 subdomains like something.50webs.com or .org etc.

Sounds like an advert but its the only paid one i have tried. Only ever needed to contact them once when a site would not work, seems i had the domain linked to a different free account. Sorted with no problem.

I use a VPS from GoDaddy. Runs a forum and website/email etc. The support I've found has been very good, via phone, and had no downtime issues.

I use TSO. Run a couple of websites on it. Hosting is cheap. Even the shared hosting is speedy. On the few times I've had to contact support (via email - not a phone person) they've responded within an hour.
