Orthodontics for overbite

FBaby he says that he is fine with having the braces. One of the factors for me, though, is that he might have to wear the retainer to sleep for years and years after the braces have been removed - as you say to prevent the teeth from going back to their original position. That's something that I think I would have a problem with and it's probably not something that he has considered.
They can stick down permanent retainers behind the teeth now, I'm coming to the end of my treatment for an underbite and that's what my orthodontist is going to do.0 -
I would do it.
My teeth started to misalign when I was about 16 and my wisdom teeth came through and pushed them into overlapping positions. By the time I asked for advice I was in my late teens and too old for free orthodontic treatment. Now in my mid thirties the consequences are just starting to show, I am losing enamel from where my teeth 'clash' against each other incorrectly. Its unlikely that my teeth will last me into old age despite the fact that I've always tried to take good care of them and have a good diet.
I wouldn't wish bad teeth at this age on anybody, it really affects your self confidence.0 -

Yep - I had this done when I was about his age. I had to wear two braces, one on the top and one on the bottom to realign my overbite. They were quite painful and after two years...jaw went straight back to how it was. Still have a large overbite but it doesn't look strange or give me any pain. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. my daughter had an overbite from years of thumb sucking.
We are in Aus, and treatment is often expensive for teeth. She had a plate which was attached to rear teeth and sat on the roof of her mouth. It had a screw thing which was adjusted every couple of months to align her teeth. It cost around GBP 500 and she had it for a year.

Hi, I had an 11mm overbite and got braces when I was 12, had various ones until I was 17 and a night time retainer til I was 18 or 19 I think.
There was no question that I needed NHS treatment and I'm really glad I had it done even though it was quite painful at times!
My brother didn't have an overbite but his teeth weren't straight, he got asked if he'd like treatment when he was younger and he said no, he's 23 now and regrets it, he's thinking of going private once he graduates. Maybe wait a year and see if he qualifies for NHS and let that make the decision for you?Total debt at LBM = £4861.03

OP, that part is not that much of an issue and I don't think you have to wear forever, but I would think at least a year, maybe more.0
