If the will matches intestacy, then any legal official checking it will probably decide it isn't worth ruling on if it is valid or not. However, you should present it ; because if you don't, and word gets out that there was a will, there might be accusations that the money should have gone somewhere else.
I think that people on wills are usually identified by name plus something else, so there is less risk of confusion.
Moreover people can change names by deed poll, marriage, or gender reassignment. If a person left money to "my grandson, John Smith", he should still get the money. Ditto errors like Stuart / Stewart.0 -
