Blocking drain to exclude rats?

Live in an area with a rat problem (or a idiot human problem I suppose, leaving rubbish around!) House is secure but see them in yard sometimes. There are two drains they come out of - both have drainpipes going down below ground level with a (broken) plastic round gully grid over.
Is there such a thing as a metal one of these that will fit a pipe through? Or will I need to cut of the pipe at ground level?
Or is there some lovely cheap solution that doesn't involve saws or tracking down obscure products?!

Post a photo and some ideas may bounce back to you. I am guessing you are talking about typical back inlet rwp hoppers. You could cover the grating with a concrete block but the rats may then climb the downpipe and end up at roof level - which raises new concerns. Better to kill them off and then the drains remain working, and you have no DIY tasks to perform here.0

A good rat trap or two will soon start to lower there population, closing of your drain will lead them to exit/enter somewhere else which you may not have access to, i have seen them coming inside buildings by chewing there way thru the conversion bend at the back of a toilet. Setting poison can lead to them dying of inside the sewer/drain which can start to cause blockages or there carcass lying rotting somewhere you can't locate but can smell.Norn Iron Club member No 3530

You can get a rainwater adaptor that sits in the top of the 110mm opening allowing a 68mm downpipe to go through http://www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-rainwater-adaptor-110mm/38593

Just put up 1-2 of those electromagnetic pest repellents around your house.
They're known to help with rats.
Here's a review of one I know works well: h ttp://lastminutegarden.com/2017/08/15/neatmaster-ultrasonic-pest-repellent-review/0 -
Have you had a close look as to where the rats could be coming from?
The eaves for example , or a neighbours house .0
