Energy debt

Your existing supplier may block the switch until the debt has been paid.
Put your consumption (in kwh not £) into a comparison site - be prepared for increased bills.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
The supplier should not block the switch for £100 but as soon as you switch the debt becomes immediately due. Who is your current supplier and do they report your account to the CRAs ? Can you get a decent tariff from your current supplier and spread paying back the debt ?0

With a prepayment meter its below £500 you can change supplier.

Hi I would like to change my energy supplier as my current tariff is ending but according to them I owe roughly around £100 can i still change suppliers and save money without paying any extra any advice but greatfull
You are unlikely to save money as energy costs have increased over the past 12 months. If you are on a fixed tariff with less than 12 months to run then ignore all PCW savings. If you have been paying by monthly DD, then you can switch at will. Any debit balance will be collected via your Final Bill. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Just keep ditching and switching ... and remain out of touch for at least 6 years
You'll be fine

I'm not on per pay manger just standard one0 -
Energy prices have increased and you are already not paying enough to cover your use so it is likely you will be paying extra whatever you do. Put your honest annual kWh usage into one of the comparison sites and see what it gives. The problem is that BG don't have anything competitive to switch to at the moment, their cheapest for me is £350 dearer than the cheapest openly available tariff.0

I've done q comparison on some site and they say I can save £120 a year as with British gas increasing electric next month but m just wondering will my little best roll over yo new supplier or will I have to clear it before switching0
-
If you switch, BG will send you a bill for any oustanding amounts and you'll have to pay it within 28 days. However they can block a switch if they don't think you will pay it.
If you don't pay it they may very well put a default on your credit hsitory which could affect you getting credit in the future
You can only transfer a debt to anothetr supplier if you've got a prepay meter.
Sensibly your account should be getting close to being balanced at this time of the year because in a couple of months your energy consumption will start to increase and make your arrears even bigger.
If you aren't paying enough at the moment to clear your outsatnding amount then it's unlikely that you'll be able to pay less with another supplier especially as energy prices are still creeping upwards.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
