Disabled tax

Hi, my parents get disables tax on there car, they have been clamped this morning due to it running out in May. They obviously wasn't aware it had run out and haven't had any reminder of it doing so.
The clamp company is nsl, who I googled and they work with the DVLA.
They will have to pay £100 to get the clamp taken off, money they just don't have at all.
Is there any way to either get the amount reduced or wrote off as they didn't get a reminder?
Thanku

We tend to specialise in private parking issues here so I think you would be better off posting this on pepipoo.com as they are more likely to have the expertise you need.
You will have to register on pepipoo with an email address, but please note that Hotmail accounts don't work for some strange reason.
Good luck.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister.

No, you first have to tax the vehicle, payment £0 I assume,
https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax
Then, you have to contact NSL pay the £100 and show the proof of vehicle tax.
https://www.gov.uk/get-a-clamped-or-impounded-vehicle-released
You can then complain to the DVLA about non-receipt of the V11 reminder and the final warning letter. I have no idea how succesfull such complaints are.0 -
Tax or no tax, my understanding is that cars displaying a disabled badge should never be immobilised. I have not, however, checked the position. More research should be undertaken.
The rationale is that they haven't just restricted use of a car but have, de facto, confined your parents to their home as their disability requires use of a vehicle.
A DVLA complaint is urgently required in quite robust terms. Did they let the clamping co. Know which of their debtors list had disabilities, too?
It is also wholly disproportionate where there is no tax to pay and the DVLA will have the address of a doctor to write to regarding continuing disability.0 -
to my knowledge it is illegal to clamp a disabled persons car, I would check this first before proceeding0

It is illegal to clamp or tow away a car displaying a blue badge the OP has not stated if this was displayed.0
