my Focus wouldn't open the boot unless I pressed the button twice.
That's is the way it is designed. The key has 2x on the boot button0 -

I also have a focus and due to my working pattern, this car is often left for 4 or 5 weeks without being driven.
It's a fairly regular occurrence that when I first get back and go to unlock the car, it won't work using the remotes but after unlocking the door manually, the car will start up okay and after that one time, the remotes will work perfectly.
It might be something to do with the once the battery drops below a certain level, no essential items such as the central locking are disabled in order to ensure that any remaining power in the battery is kept for things such as starting.
It might be worth checking the interior light, boot light and glovebox light to see if one of them is on and is draining the battery a little bit during the night.
That's normal on a focus (well, on mine anyway).
The boot release button has to be pressed twice in quick succession to release the catch.
My car switches off the remote central locking after about 5 days to save the car battery. Yours might be doing the same.0 -
I phoned two dealers and they both thought the same, that the battery was low. One stated that a 14 mile round trip to work was barely enough to charge the battery.
The dealer i brought it from suggested i bring it in so the battery can be reconditioned. I declined on this occasion as its miles away and will cost me most of my day off. I think ill wait and see if it happens again first.0 -
I've switched fob batteries on my mondeo key, using a youtube video for guidance - may save your day off?0

1) hold the transmitter close to your head and press the button (It really does increase the range of the remote, I don't know what the deadly radio waves do to your brain though)If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0

Yes, this works. My Mondeo had gone a bit 'deaf' and would only open from about 10 ft away. Holding the remote to me head I could unlock it from indoors, three times the distance away. I found the remote had to be hard against my skull for it to work (not just nearby) as if it was using the bone for resonance.
Slightly more worryingly for you, it's actually using your skull as an amplifier, with signals abounding around your brain.0 -
