Exhaust for Rover 400

Hi guys,
My boyfriends exhaust had gone (1.6 petrol) and wondered what are our cheapest options on getting a new one. At the moment his sounds like a V8 and he keeps turning boy racers heads!
He has had a quote from an independant Tyre & Exhaust place for £85 +VAt for the mid and back sections and fitting.
I'm one for going to the scrappy - but how easy/hard are exhausts to fit yourself? We're both quite handy at fixing cars but no specialist knowledge.
Hope someone can help?

honda civic (similar car) mid and rear exhaust was £90 IIRC so probably a good price. depends on the quality of the exhaust too. best to check length of warranty0

Old exhausts are usually a pig to get off requiring a blow torch and big hammer. Even if you managed to find a decent undamaged one in a scrappy (unlikely) you may well break it getting it off. New ones usually come with a couple of years warranty so I'd grit my teeth and pay the £85 and not have to worry about it for a while.0

Best thing to do is speak to Viking Rover Breakers in Kings Norton who will advise. They will know whether possible to do yourself or suggest a cheap alternative i'm sure mor info at http://www.roverbreaker.com/0

Thanks to all of you.
Flip that's fantastic - I work just down the road from them - tried for a part for my old car, but forgot about them!
When he comes over for lunch I'll get him to pop up there.
Many thanks again
