Cheap/Free border edging

Hi all,
Recently taken on an allotment and in a bid to break from a lifetime of consumerism and I am trying to do things as cheap and recyclingy as possible.
I am trying to get think of ideas for readily available things that could be used to edge the beds? Love the upturned glass bottles I've seen on Pinterest but we never have glass bottles at home and you need a lot a lot to do that. Any ideas? I don't drive, so that's another restriction. Is this just a case where it might actually be easier to buy some gravel boards and be done with it?
