Urgent help required please!!! Disgusting carpets...

We have guests coming this Friday. The carpets are old but its a rented house so I refuse to replace them. So instead I decided to clean them, and to save money hired a rug doctor. Clened the carpets, they came up well, no problems. Until the next day....
The next day this unholy stagnant smell appeared. It smells like old socks. The carpets seemed dry, maybe a tiny it damp still. i phoned rug doctor and they said they'd send out some odour remover spray. I couldn't wait that long so drove to the shops and bought some. But the smell remains. Guests are coming Friday and even though I've actually considered getting new carpet I won't be able to have it laid in time for Friday. HELP!!!!! Is there anything i can do xxx

Big pots of bicarb may help, chuck it all over and leave overnight,
vacuum up in the morning but i really think you are fighting a losing battle.
Try harder shopping around for carpets....make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Can you borrow any dehumidifiers and leave them running with all the doors and windows closed?A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

So had professional carpet cleaner in, carpets are not yet dry but can still smell it faintly. Will it go eventually or are new carpets the only answer?0

Keep as much fresh air circulating as you can . If you can still smell it on Friday, just make a joke of it with your guests.
Hope its okay for youmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Cook strong smelling food for your friends and serve lots of wine.
Burn scented candles all evening

Have an outdoor dinner party in the garden.0

Get a puppy that'll tiddle exerwhere, the smell will mask the damp odor from the carpet.0
