    You have no contract with the manufacturer, so why did you think it had anything to do with them?
    Given that you didn't report it for 25 days to the retailer, and then installed it anyway, I'm amazed they offered to take any responsibility at all. Assuming the dent is invisible once installed, £100 is very generous.
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    All a bit fishy this one. I tuned out when I heard they had cancelled the engineer.

    If I was the seller I would be suspicious.
