Redundancy

I'm being made redundant after four years. Is that even legal? There is no way they can cover all the work I do and will have to bring in freelancers to do it but they will cost them much less... I'm not the only one, others have also been targeted but on a one by one basis rather then a proper redundancy pool. They are just preparing for Brexit when their main source of funding will stop. What are my rights? Does having been employed for four years offer any protection?:mad:

4 yrs employment offers absolutely no protection against redundancy. Length of service will effect redundancy paymentIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

So...they can cover the work...for cheaper and with freelancers.....where is the negative to the company in this please?
Ultimately start reading up on the redundancy procedure but for 4 years unless there is a contractual redundancy you may want to start preparing to move onDon't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
It's a business decision. If they can sack you and get the work cheaper by hiring external, of course they will. Will it impact the quality? Possibly, but again that's a business decision which may impact them further down the line - more fool them.
For now you just need to ensure you get the correct redundancy payout agreed and your final salary is correct - try leave things amicable! You never know they might come crawling back to you in X months or years if it doesn't work out the way they hoped. But by then you may have moved onwards to new and better things.
Just keep your head up high and get looking for new roles to start upon your exit.0
