  • When you applied for the new job did the form ask why you left last job? If so then what did you write?
    I don't think any employer will divulge any medical info about you without your consent.
    Many employers are so concerned about being taken to court/tribunal over a reference that all they will say is ''I can confirm that XXXX worked here as ZZZZZ between (dates)'' When I left the Civil Service future references had to be sent to central HR who would reply as above. So as a character reference I put down a manager (not mine) from my last organisation who was not in my LM chain but was a big player in the work I was doing.
    If you feel you have been short-changed then a Subject Access Request is your option.

    Honestly, where did you "put this down"? I have been applying for, getting and working in fairly well paid professional positions for the last 25 years and at no time have I been asked for a character reference or a specific work reference or even had anywhere to "put" one. Is it just my field where this doesn't happen?
