Hoping someone can clarify something for me please.

My car has "lost" all the audio warnings - the indicators/hazards have stopped making the tick-tock noise, there's no warning chime when the door is open and the key is left in the ignition, no warning chime if the handbrake is left on slightly etc. The indicators themselves work as do the green flashing arrows on the dash.

I don't know much about cars but after extensive googling most people on forums suggest it is the CIM unit.

I've taken the car to the local independent garage I use for servicing & MOT's (never had to have anything else done except tyres) and he hadn't heard of the problem before. They connected the laptop to it - Vauxhall/Opel diagnostic program - and nothing relevant showed up. He said if I buy a second hand part they would fit it.

I've looked on ebay and there are quite a few for sale, some with and some without indicator/wiper stalks, some with and without ignition barrel etc. I contacted one seller and he said he thought it might be the speedo as there is a speaker box at the back of it. I may not be explaining this very well - apologies.

He bought a corsa at auction yesterday and has tested it today and he says it is the instrument cluster clock speedo.

I've still got my doubts. What I mean is, the noises may come from there but something has got to "tell" it to make a noise.

Does anyone know the answer please as I don't want to buy the wrong part. The parts he sells are Tech2 reset.

Thanks in anticipation.

Dolly

The CIM unit controls the immobiliser and indicators, and has the sound module built in.

To change it requires that the replacement module be programmed to the car, I recall when I still had a corsa there was some debate as to whether TECH2 could reprogramme a second hand one to a new car without the passcodes from the donor.

I'd be inclined to forget about it rather than mess with the CIM module tbh, you have a visual warning of the indicators so it will pass MOT.

It is possible to adjust the volume of the beeps, either with TECH2 or the "secret" menu accessed by inserting the key (don't turn it) and hold both stalks towards you for 3 seconds. You want P7. Check it is turned up!

Other than that, try joining one of the vauxhall forums and asking there.

    Many thanks for your reply.

I've had the car 8 years and I've never altered the volume of the sounds through the "secret" menu neither has by husband, the only other person to use the car. Didn't even know there was a secret menu until I started googling this problem but I have read about it now and watched a youtube demo.

The parts from this seller have been Tech2 reset i.e. blank.

I've read that it will pass the MOT but I personally don't like driving without the indicator noise. I worry that they may not have cancelled and I hadn't noticed.

I've read countless forums since this problem started and everyone says the same:

    a) disconnect the negative terminal on the battery overnight - doesn't solve it.

    b) relay switch - doesn't solve it. The mechanic I took it too checked all the fuses & relays switches to make sure nothing was loose.

    c) secret menu - doesn't solve it. Plus I've lost all audio warnings, not just the indicator noise.

    d) CIM unit - solves it at a cost hence me looking on ebay.

There's loads of info on Astras as they were subject to a recall. There was a Watchdog programme about the horn not working. I'll have to check my horn:o

It was only yesterday that this seller said he thought it would be the speedo clock cluster. I'm not sure and I don't want to buy the wrong part.

Thank you for your advice, I appreciate it.

For anyone who may be interested, it was the Instrument Cluster (the clocks). There is a speaker at the back of the part.

    All fixed now.

I'm very sorry but I've only just seen your post. Did you get your car fixed?

I actually bought a new instrument cluster from ebay and a local garage took the old one out, programmed the new one and fitted it for me.

You can send your instrument cluster for repair to a company in Hampshire if you know how to take it out and refit it. Or someone can do it for you. This company did not repair mine as I managed to buy a new one but they did repair my husband's instrument cluster (different problem) on his Merc.

Cartronix.co.uk. Hope it's OK to post their name on here.

Here is a link to a thread on another forum (I'm Redhead123):

Hope this helps anyone who may be in same situation.
