How do I remove preinstalled McAfee from a netbook?

Hello. I have a secondhand Acer Aspire One netbook with MS Win8.1 installed on it and it has McAfee preinstalled, and I want to unstall it because I am NOT paying a subscription to reactivate it because it has run out and I want to install a freeware antivirus software program like AVG2017. Problem is :
When I try and uninstall McAfee, a box comes up asking me what I want to uninstall and I check the tickboxes McAfee Internet Security Suite and Remove All Files For This Program" and when I click "Remove", "Navigation to the webpage was cancelled" appears and "what you can try Refresh the page" appears!!!!
Is this a deliberate ploy from McAfee to prevent a user removing McAfee Internet Security Suite in a bid to make the user stay and pay the subscription to reactivate the software and be tied into McAfee's own software protection, or does anybody know of an easy workaround for this so I can rid my machine of this nuisance once and FOR ALL and get rid of it for good?

AV programs often have protection to stop malware interfering with their operation. You might check the McAfee web site for removal info.
A useful, and free, program that I've used to remove those annoying junk programs often installed on new PCs and laptops is PC Decrapifier (https://www.pcdecrapifier.com).0 -
