Cheap/er tarmac solution

We've got a helluva long tarmac drive which will shortly need sorting out. A local business has a car park that needs re-surfacing and has been quoted £30k OR £3k!

As I understand it, the £3k is for ex-motorway stuff that presumably gets re-melted and laid. It's lifespan is quoted at 3-5 years.

Has anyone taken this option? Know anymore about it?

I am guessing the cheap stuff is road planings which contractors will be keen to tip. You will have to decide on the legalities of this - do some research here. A 3-5 year life span is no good to man nor beast. A quick tart up by a developer is a scenario that comes to mind.

I doubt its being laid hot (think type 1 surface), Its likely to be planning's put down over the surface, actually commercial and I have several miles terram, hardcore, then planning's toped Its fine and makes an economic solution they do need some maintenance however for us a quick spruce up with a digger and levelling rake once every couple of years.

Planning's were for a short time considered toxic waste (stupidly), that was soon dropped and are quite legal to use they cost us hauled around £180+VAT hauled for a 20t load.

Tarmac is extremely expensive and unless the sub base is good offers little longevity, but if you want a silky smooth surface then either pay for hot roll tarmac or concreate the whole thing which if done properly will last a lifetime... However you pay your money you make your choice.
