House or flat/maisonette

I have a budget between 200-250k in Reading. My options appear to be:
1. 1 bed flats in the town centre
2. 1 bed house in suburbs eg calcot/lower earley
3. 2 bed maisonettes eg tilehurst
What would be the best option and why?

    1) Because you live alone, work in the city centre, don't have much stuff so don't need the space, don't cook and want to near takeaways, and like being able to stumble home in 2 min after a night on the town ( I am just making assumptions here... If this is not you then 2 or 3)

    Are you 20, 40 or 80?

    Male? Female?

    Married? Engaged?

    Working? Unemployed?

    Introvert? Extrovert?

    A good cook? A junk-food addict?

The question is so open-ended as to be.... err.. can't think of an appropriate, and acceptable, adjective.

A second bedroom allows you another income stream if you take in a lodger (you are after all in commutable distance of London, so it should be easy for you to let a room if you wanted to).

But as G_M says, you haven't given us enough info about your priorities.

Oh come on. You can't seriously expect a lodger to share with his 3 and 6 year old kids surely?

House every time. No leaseholds to fork out for, generally better resale. Much more freedom to do what you want to it.

i would always go with central every time - i always place convenience over space and i have no interest in gardening or having to own and run cars to get about.
  • And Boliston and LadyL just proved why no one except you can tell you which one is best for you.
It's all down to your priorities!

I'm worried about his St Bernard dog getting enough exercise in his central flat.:o
