Warranty on second hand car advice please

Options
Second hand car, financed..2013 plate with 8 months MOT and a full service history.
Comes with 6 months warranty from the dealer.. but can pay £350 for an extended warranty for 18 months.

Is this worth while doing? What does a warranty cover? I didn't think to ask at the time (so much information) and it's shut now but I'll ring up in the morning and give them an answer.

They said if I go for the extended warranty I can take the car to my local Peugeot dealership for any work as opposed to them because it's 2 hours away and it should all be covered. I have not purchased the car from a Peugeot place though.

I've only ever brought older cars outright (2k max) and I know it will come with great limitations so I'm not as clued up as I probably should be.

Can anyone give me some basic advice on if it'll be worth the money? I'm hoping on a 4 year old car there shouldn't be to much ready to go wrong though..

Is that £350 for an additional 18 months, or just 12 months more months on top of the 6 months you have already?

£350 for 12 months warranty seems very expensive on a car that shouldn't go wrong anyway, unless this is a genuine manufacturer warranty

In general, warranties exclude anything that could possibly break or wear out in normal use, so you have six months to find any likely problem.

I wouldn't waste my money on anything except a manufacturer warranty, and then I'd read the small print exclusions very carefully indeed first.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Rarely worth the paper they are printed on. Stick £350 in a savings account to cover any repairs and if it's still there in 12/18 months enjoy a lovely weekend in Bruges.

You need to check what the policy actually says - there is no standard policy. However, most of them exclude "wear and tear" items, and the more useless ones define pretty much anything electrical, or anything on the car that moves, as "wear and tear".

Alternatively, they may have a maximum pay-out. So if the clutch fails, that's wear and tear. If the engine blows up, then you get about half the cost of fixing it.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Sorry it's £350 for an extra 12 months if I listened correctly. So i'll end up with 18 months warranty in total if I paid it.

I'm not to fussed about it really, it seems alot of money when that could just go straight into the car pot for if anything happened to it. But was wondering if I was missing out on a deal as never had a fair recent car.

Thanks Facade! I'll stick to the free 6 months. :)

Whoops, cheers! Didn't see the other 2 comments in time.

I'll probably just leave it and save the cash instead.

I'm just a bit excited to get a car that isn't over 10 years old.

Have to agree, i'll share a recent experience on my "extended Peugeot warranty" sold under the brand and touted as just as good as manufacturers £250 for 12 months. Peugeot 3008 2014.

Parking assist failure on dash, both rear and front sensors all de-activated, took it to dealers as under warranty.....

First point the warranty does not cover the diagnostic fee £89 !

Diangnosed as a sensor, warranty agree to pay less the above.

    Sensor fitted still faulty

    Diagnosed as wiring fault

Warranty does not cover anything to do with wiring !

Result....nothing covered on warranty at all .......i'm left to foot the whole bill :-)
