Alarm GSM addon

Hi,
I have a Honeywell Accenta G4 alarm and would like to know if anyone has come across (hopefully tried) an addon module that allows the unit to send text messages when the alarm activates and when the alarm is unset and set. Would prefer sub £40 and simple DIY installation.
Thanks
Annie

Are you talking about something like this? (First result from a quick Google).

    Ebay result.
  • I use a "GSM Gateway" with my alarm rather than plugging the alarm into a landline. Basically it's a box that is normally used with a desk telephone to provide a more convenient office phone in a temporary office. You fit a SIM card into the box, switch it on and plug a land line phone into the side of the box... or the line cable from the alarm.

There are quite a few on eBay, price typically around £30. Beware that some may be 2G only and therefore not usable on Three. A search on eBay for GSM gateway will show several.

It's not sub £40 but I have an (older) Accenta G7 connected to one of these:

I drilled a small hole in the alarm box. I purchased the one with the grey enclosure and butted it up tight to the G7 so you cant get to the cable when the door is locked. I connected it with some light weight 3 core cable - it only draws very low current from the alarm. I only have one of the two inputs connected.

The flashing green light on the box is quite bright at night.
  • Thanks for the quick replies everyone. The Advent one is a bit out of my price bracket. Has anyone else tried this one, that was mentioned in the first reply?

Seems to have right features, will have to check with husband !!

  • Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the advice. I installed the £26.50 one from ebay today and it works brilliant. Its only via text but ideal for what I need it for - when the alarm has gone off and when the kids get home from school. Thanks again everyone.

  • I have the Veritas version, been inside the alarm for about 5 months now. Could not be happier. If you are looking for something cheap and reliable I would definitely give one of these a go.
    :)
