Visiting the neighbours

I've asked lots of locals but not knocked on neighbours' doors. Did see a woman cleaning her step opposite the house we're buying and I very nearly spoke with her but my BF was mortified and said no and shuffled me away quite quickly. I was a bit chicken but would have done as she was sort of outside.
I suppose we worry a bit it's tempting fate! I always ask about them and visit at different times of the day (outside the property, not lots of viewings).2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
I wonder what the legal status of the neighbours replies would be?
What if they didn't like the person you were buying from and wanted to sabotage the sale of their house?
Talking to neighbours could bring all sorts of problems0 -

There's no accounting for folk, but surely they'd like to get rid of neighbours they didn't like?0 -
I knocked next door when we bought the house we're in now. She asked me inside and showed me round. Told me about the neighbourhood and put my mind at rest so we went ahead and bought. I think you can usually get a feel for what the neighbours are like but not always. Wish I had done it at our previous house.0

If that's the case they're not people I'd want to live next to anyway, if I later found out they're lied about the area just to screw over their neighbour I'd consider myself lucky I dodged a bullet.0 -
I've introduced myself to one of our new neighbours (still waiting to exchange), she told me quite a bit about the other people in the same street and gave me the code to the keysafe attached to the house we're buying.....
We said hello in passing to the other neighbour on our first viewing.
Sounds a bit reckless - I wonder how many other people she's given the code to :eek:0 -
Thanks everyone; I'm feeling a bit braver now! Good tip to ask about gardening; I'm going to pop over on Saturday so hopefully we'll have good weather and someone will be out and about. It's helpful to hear so many good/useful experiences from other people who've done this before
And I suppose, if the neighbours are horrible and tell me to sod off, that's useful information as well!

I've never done it. If every viewer or interested person did it would get pretty annoying for the neighbours and they aren't the ones who signed up for disruption.0
