Balance Transfer Balls Up!

Hello all,

I applied for a halifax balance transfer card today and made a mistake when I entered the required credit limit.

I put down £6000 as this is what I need to transfer but didnt realise it would only let me transfer 95% of the balance. They accepted me for the £6000 limit but web page crashed before I could complete the application.

I have just tried to do it again and set the credit limit as £6500 as this will allow me to transfer the lot but now it will only offer me a £4500 limit.

Is the system random or are they taking in to account that I have just attempted a previous application before the page crashed? Am I best calling them to see what they can do for me? Dont really want to wait another 30 days before applying again.

Thanks
Steve

You are not guaranteed to get the limit that you ask for in any case. They will base it on your credit history and their risk criteria

I understand that but it was the fact the limit went from £6000 to £4500. Wanted to know if it was random or if the first search has knackered my credit score or not.

Why didn't you ring them after the first attempt? I know its ridiculous but lenders don't see who searched your file even when it was them! They only see a credit application search.

I didnt realise I could have done. I have just called them and they have advised that I would need to wait the 30 days for the search to clear so I can re-apply and get the higher credit limit that I require.

Happy to wait and will make another current CC payment anyway so limit I will need will be less anyway.
  • And now I get an automated email from Halifax asking why I didnt complete my application. Frustration continues!
