Though it's only mandatory to submit an SDLT return if it's a transaction which requires it. Admittedly that's the vast majority of purchases, but it doesn't apply if the consideration is below £40k (and at least one contributor here said they persuaded their solicitor they can DIY the SDLT, though that's only an option for cash purchases).Yorkshire_Traveller wrote: »But it is possible to pay by debit card and not pay a credit card fee. Morally I do agree, but it may be possible to fill in your own SDLT form for purchases without a mortgage.0
