Bank statements from closed account

Long shot but here goes....
I want to apply for a British passport. I need to prove that I have been in this country for as long as I say I have. So I need bank statements with my name and address on them, dating back to 2004. I have been a good money saving girls and I have switched my banks accounts frequently and so I don't have anything left from 2004-2006 as I have always been told there is no need to keep bank statements for so long.
So, is there a way to get statements from the bank from that long ago, for an account that is long closed and for which I no longer know the account number?
Please can we not have a discussion about how I should have saved my paperwork and tax papers etc.
I lost everything after a bereavement and had to downsize from a house to a single room in a shared house with nowhere to store anything. I had to make choices about how much stuff I could keep. So bank statements and tax correspondence that was over 10 years old seemed a sensible thing to throw away
Thanks for any help and advice.

On second thought, the answer is: call the bank and ask. Duh. It is clearly time for a cup of coffee to wake my brain up!!!0
