I never tumble dry socks, never had any shrink either. And over the years i've washed a LOT of socks !0

Maybe consider a heated airer like the Dry Soon models sold in Lakeland. You can often get bargains on ebay because some people can't get on with them. I love mine.
Or there are those white wire things you can hang over a radiator so the cloths are not actually on a radiator itself. You may have a room with a radiator that is not on public show so to speak? They can be picked up for a couple of pounds0 -
If you soak the shrunken socks in warm water and fabric conditioner they often return to normal. just don't put them back in the dryer.
I find the dryer also shrinks my cheap t shirts the above method also works with them.0 -

We do have wire airers but I think that as they take so long in winter, the tumble dryer has been put to use too often and maybe the culprit."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0
