Socks that don't shrink

Options
Can anyone tell me of a brand of men's socks that do not shrink in the wash? I have size 11 feet and buy socks that fit 9-12 size.
My wife always washes these on 30 deg. wash so please don't say we have the washing machine programme too hot. We have checked the temperature of the wash as well. I have tried cotton, wool, socks with elastine, top brands and Sainsburys, but after a few washes, the socks are really tight & uncomfortable. I measured some pairs and they are 5-6 inches in length. But the worst thing is the diameter of the socks, which make them so difficult to put on or off. I have about 50 pairs and they are all the same, useless after a few washes.

None if my husbands socks shrink, just checked and his works ones are caterpillar and his non work ones are marks, Debenhams and even a few primark pairs, he is also a size 11.

Sorry, that's not much help, just can't understand why yours are shrinking, do you put them in a tumble drier?

I buy really cheap market socks .... never "decent" ones. I'll randomly be in a cheap and grubby market and buy cheap socks, say "£1/pair" (or cheaper if possible)..... and I've NEVER had socks shrink.

Try some cheapo socks.... worth a try at something like "3-5 pairs for £5".

Generally my socks will last 2-3 years ... so they don't disintegrate after 2-3 washes.

Tumble drier? Even a short amount of time - let alone a full-drying cycle - could could affect the fabric.

Have you looked for extra large socks on Google? You can get both extra long and extra wide ( particularly on diabetic or foot-health sites.)

Thanks for all replies, have used most major suppliers M & S & Next, so guess it must be the tumble drying, which is almost essential during the winter. Her indoors does not like putting them on the rads though!!

Instead of putting clothes on radiators get a drying horse and a dehumidifier with laundry mode. It will dry your clothes far more effectively than on the radiators and will help prevent condensation. The cost of a high-spec dehumidifier, e.g. Meaco, will outweigh the costs of running a tumble drier and extra radiator heating.

The socks of myself and my husband never shrink and they are tumble dryed for much of the year.
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Well, that is a different approach, I'll look into that, thanks.

Well that is really helpful, I really needed to know that. But in any case that was not my question! My wife is fastidious with the laundry and I have stuff from the days of C & A which look as good as the day they were bought, but I still have shrunken socks!

  • Duchamp.

Awesome brand and socks can now be purchased from TK Maxx for a fraction of their value.
