NUS CARD - is it worth it ?

  • I have found that most places accept normal student id card & only had trouble in HMV when using it last year.
This year my id card has NUS printed on it anyway, don't know what difference it'll make as not used it yet.

  • in 5yrs of being a student, i have never been asked to show an NUS card, my student card has always been enough to get the discounts offered!

Does anyone have a list of retailers who offer the discounts for the standard Associate card, and a list for the Extra card?

I heard that Subways is also offering discounts to NUS members, but is this true? If so, how much? 20% would be brilliant!

NUS should just keep ONE card, rather than having two...! It confuses people like me, and most likely confuses retailers aswell.

Most of the offers are available without an NUS card. If a company offers a student discount, they cant refuse to give you the discount as long as you can prove you are a student - regardless if you are a member of the NUS.
  • I'm doing a 10-week Open University course and am quite chuffed to find that this entitles me to an Extra card. The Subway discount is only £1 off a Footlong sub if you buy a drink, so don't get too excited! :)

Tried using my previous NUS card from Aston Uni (got NUS at the back) at Republic in Birmingham, and they refused it. They don't accept any other student card other than the original NUS.... even though my Aston Uni card has NUS at the back of it, and is original!

Have requested a new NUS card from NUS directly for £10 as I'm doing CIMA, so entitled to the card. Worth having the benefits. Could have saved 20% at Republic, £10 on £50 worth of clothes! Could have paid the card off!
