A company call Effectiveheating have told us that due to the benefits we receive we are entitled to a new boiler to replace our 6 year old combi (which is working)
.
They seem legit BUT they suggested that we check out HHCRO.GOV which we can't find on the internet.
Should we be right to be wary or are the legit and the offer all it seems to be?
TIA
ETA found HHCRO using a different browser would still welcome comments.

What could possibly go wrong it it's free?
Free is Good! :money:
Worst case scenario is you don't get the free boiler you have been told you are entitled to. Let us know how you get on...0 -
The new boiler maybe 'Free', but all the alterations to fit it aren't
1) Are the gas supply pipes into your house and those within it, of sufficient
size to supply a modern combi
2) It's unlikely that your present boilers flue arrangements, and or, position in
the house will meet current regulations so it will have to be moved.
If this 6 year old boiler has been reliable and is regularly serviced, stay with it0 -
From the Energy Company Obligation website/www.boilergrants.co.uk
"Funding for gas boiler replacement is now very limited and may not be available for all new enquiries. We expect another announcement from the government and will update this page once the details are known."
"Oil and LPG" are unaffected - that's good news BUT >
"In order to qualify for a government boiler grant you will need to be in receipt of specific benefits (and possibly meet additional criteria)"
"Your boiler must be at less than 86% efficiency for you to qualify for a replacement. This is far more likely with boilers which are older and to qualify with Boiler Grants yours must be 8 years old or more."Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Why would you want to rip out a working 6 year old boiler, free or not?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I would be wary of a company that does not know the conditions that apply.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

The big saving for us would be the £300 a year we pay BG for servicing/repair cover as a new boiler would carry 2 years free, also whilst not that old and working BG tell us it has gone "limited parts" and its known not to be a reliable make0 -

1) the existing boiler is a modern one
2) the job includes a replacement flue
TBH the prospect of getting a new top of the range combi is the attraction0 -
The boilers you get are bottom of the range not the top.
This doesnt make financial sense. If you want to save ditch the BG service and use a local man.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
A 6 year old boiler is possibly only a year out of warranty, All it should need is an annual service by a local independent RGI-cost around £80.
BG are notorious for spinning the 'parts unavailable' line. this is because they get referral commission for sales leads. Google the make and model and you should find plenty of spares for such a new boiler. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
