I've had a similar experience with another company Educational Marketing Supplies also based in the Manchester area. received the phone call completely out of the blue last Wednesday 27th March 19, invoice arrived Friday for £311.99p just got off the phone today 2nd April after telling them I'm not paying. I also said I'd like to hear the original phone conversation and that I've not signed anything! Funny they only do verbal agreements.

I've had similar conversations with many cold callers over the years, so many it's pointless to name the actual companies. The conversations always go something like this:

We are working with [insert name of organisation here] to produce a booklet on [subject] and we're looking to feature some local businesses. This booklet will contain valuable information like phone numbers, guides on [subject] etc so we know that people who are [doing the thing relating to the subject] will hold on to it. The booklet will be given out by [name of organisation] to everyone who [enquires about subject] and/or distributed by [organisation]. It will be an official booklet produced by [organisation] and will only feature local businesses. We specialise in working with smaller businesses to provide them with this amazing opportunity etc etc

The first time it happened, they told me they were producing a booklet for the local planning office that would be given out to anyone making enquiries about planning permission. So I phoned the local planning office, and of course they don't distribute any such booklet.

As a general rule, steer well clear of any company that offers advertising you've never heard of (because if you've never heard of it, who exactly is going to see it?), who offers advertising in places or with organisations that don't do advertising, and especially any company whatsoever that claims to specialise in working with small local businesses. Why do they specialise in working with small businesses? Because the big businesses have seen all these scams before!
Well informed on the subjects of sofas and wood furniture, and well opinionated on everything else :rotfl:
