Do I pay a solicitor or obtain probate myself
Comments

i did probate myself. i just took it step by step. I promised if i ran into trouble I get a solicitor, but I never needed to. I found the banks to be very helpful.
I would also agree with the other poster who said there is no need to rush into it whilst you are still grieving.0 -
Thanks for all the replies.
Regarding the children, they are under 18 years old- the will just says to give them 'x'% each for them to have when they are 21. Can we just put this into a savings account for them or do we need to set up a trust fund?
Regarding a solicitor for the house sale- is this just the same as you would use for selling a house in normal circumstances?
Finally, my mum gave us the money to pay off a car loan 6 months ago. Will the paper work tell me where to declare this?0 -
Although it says 21 they are now entitled to the money at 18. It has to be held in trust until then. You could put the money in a Halifax junior ISa or whatever it is now called as this earns a good rate of interest. Not strictly by the book but should be OK. The car loan should be shown as as a debt to the estate. You only need a solicitor to sell the hose just as any other house sale.0
