can't afford DVLA fine
I received a fine from the dvla for not taxing my car. a month or two ago. I wrote to them a letter to tell them what my situation was at the time. I had left my wife and she made me homeless. I had a lot of other things on my mind at the time basically telling them that's why I had forgot. I also told them I'm currently unemployed and can't afford to pay them back in full but have no problem paying it up. I got a letter back saying they will give me an extra month to pay it. I can't afford it, its £293 (not a lot I know) but I don't have a job just now and anything money I receive is for food and bills. Anything else I can do? at the moment I don't really have a choice apart from letting them take me to court

Anyone you can borrow the money from until you get back on your feet? I would avoid going through a court case if you can....0 -
Sell the car, then you won't have to worry about the cost of tax, insurance, mot, service, fuel; you will be quids in.0

I could try yeah, that looks like its my only option just now (replying to motorguy)0

I really would urge you to find a way to pay it without it going to court. The hearing is not about whether you are able to pay it back or why you forgot, just whether you were legally responsible for what the DVLA says you were, it's very cut and dry and just adds further costs. Do you have anything valuable you can sell? Or anyone you can borrow money off.0

I've got a few bits and bobs I could sell. It looks like I'll have to go down this road. Thanks for your reply, I wasn't 100% sure whether to contact them again. I'll find someway to pay it.0

Hey it's man.......... I lost my job to redundancy years ago (2009), 6 months later I found another as I was just about to head into the red on my current account, lets bare in mind i'd been offered credit and overdrafts for years before this. All I needed was a £300 overdraft to see me until my first pay day, but the bank refused, they'd rather me go into the red so that they can start charging me for doing so, just dragging me down into a bottomless pit.
As I recall the charge per day was in excess of what most people earn (gross) per day.
Fortunately I had savings and managed to transfer some money, then after starting my new job I changed banks.
No matter who you are, the system is just waiting for you to slip up, so that it can bleed you dry. THAT is why i'm so against loans, finance deals and any form of debt.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
