Just got an email today from Amazon stating that as of Oct 31 they will be stopping their Lovefilm by Post, DVD/Bluray rental service.
"Who watches DVD/blurays anymore" I hear you all say but tell me where you can get unlimited (legal) streaming of the latest movies for around a tenner a month as well as having the picture quality of a physical blu-ray disc.

I got the same email as I too use the service. For the record I'm considering switching to Cinema Paradiso as I've heard good things about them.0

Erm how many discs can you have out at one time?
I'm sure you can watch way more movies on sky cinema (nowtv) for £9.99 a month than having to post a DVD back to amazon so they will release another one. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I can never find the movies I want on Sky or similar. I have 200 movies on my Lovefilm wishlist and only a fraction are available on streaming sites so I am not happy.
Gavin83 - thanks for suggesting them. They seem to have a good world cinema selection which is what I am mainly interested in. They should do an offer to lure us Lovefilm exiles over to them!0 -
I'm not happy either - had a look at Netflix & none of my lovefilm list films are available on it
I only pay £4.07 for 2 dvd's per month (had subscription since Noah launched the Ark) & find that perfectly acceptable; never struggle for anything to watch.
Handy way to catch up on stuff missed at the cinema/not deemed worthy of £10 cinema seat even with meerkat offer/or very random old films not available dvd.
How the heck do I decide the last few?

I can have 2 discs at home at any one time, usually average about 10-12 per month. I'm pretty sure sky cinema doesn't show the latest movie releases.Erm how many discs can you have out at one time?

The fact is there isn't an equivalent steaming service, other than pay-per-view, that will give you the amount and variety of movies available than a rental service can provide. Just another example of how sometimes technology is a step backward in terms of a benefit for the consumer.0 -
Its a loss making business which isn't worth the overhead of running as very few people use these services. If they were popular it wouldn't be discontinued.
For the majority of consumers the technological advances of moving from DVD's to streaming has been a massive step forward.0 -

It's no good switching to anyone. Sooner or later they'll all stop the physical DVD/Bluray service.0 -

They probably will but in the meantime it seems perfectly sensible to switch if you wish to get films this way.0 -

What a bizarre logic. While the service exists I'll use it. If Amazon no longer wish to offer the service I'll switch to a competitor but I certainly won't be using their Prime service that they're attempting to push on me instead.
Streaming is still a fair bit off of what I'd consider acceptable as a replacement to physical Blu-rays.0 -
I'll never understand not switching to streaming...tis so convenient!
But yes, if a business is making a loss it will close.
